My Approach to Hypnotherapy

My Approach to Hypnotherapy Explained Simply

People often carry assumptions about hypnotherapy—shaped by movies, myths, or outdated ideas. There are many ideas, both accurate and inaccurate. Here, I want to clarify what hypnotherapy means in my practice, so you know exactly what to expect.

My Approach to Hypnotherapy Explained Simply

My hypnotherapy is gentle, spacious, and deeply imagery-forward. It is not about control, force, or “fixing” a person. It is about creating a safe inner landscape where the nervous system can soften, the mind can rest, and the deeper self can speak.

I work exclusively via Zoom, because I’ve found that clients feel most comfortable and open when they are in their own homes. Being in a familiar, private space allows the body to relax more naturally, making it easier to settle into hypnosis without the added strain of travel, unfamiliar environments, or time pressure.

Many people find it helpful to know that my work feels very much like guided meditation. Clients remain aware, present, and in control throughout the session. The difference is that I begin by guiding the body and mind into a deeper state of relaxation in the beginning, which allows the imagery and suggestions that follow to land more gently and meaningfully.

Sessions are intentionally unhurried. I work slowly and deliberately, allowing clients to remain in hypnosis long enough for real settling to occur—often described as a profound sense of peace, safety, and inner quiet. This extended time allows the subconscious to absorb new perspectives without pressure.

I use guided imagery, symbolism, nature-based scenes, and sensory detail to help clients access inner resources they already possess but may have forgotten. Rather than focusing on symptoms or diagnoses, my work emphasizes resilience, strength, self-trust, and inner steadiness.

Counting techniques—such as gentle countdowns and count-outs—are often used to deepen relaxation and to support a calm, grounded return to waking awareness. These structures provide reassurance and containment, especially for those navigating grief, illness, anxiety, or life transitions.

My language is non-medical, non-judgmental, and empowering. I avoid pathologizing experiences and instead focus on helping clients reconnect with who they are beneath stress, fear, or exhaustion. The work is collaborative, respectful, and attuned to each individual’s pace.

Above all, my hypnotherapy is about remembering…. remembering strength, remembering safety, remembering identity, and remembering that even in difficult chapters, there is still life, beauty, and meaning available within.
