How I Found Hypnotherapy: A Personal Journey

My hypnotherapy journey started long before I even knew what it was. I was in high school, caught in the throes of some emotional drama that I honestly can’t even remember now. But what I do remember is how overwhelmed I felt—and the way my mother responded when I finally reached out for help. She didn’t try to fix the problem or tell me how to feel. Instead, she gently guided me to lie down and close my eyes.

With a calm, steady voice, she took me on a visual journey.

“Imagine a place where you feel completely safe,” she said.

And I did. I found myself walking through a quiet meadow, the grass swaying softly in the breeze. A gentle stream trickled nearby, its sound like a lullaby to my nervous system. The sky was open, wide, and soft above me. I didn’t know it then, but I had just discovered my first safe space within—a place I could return to, anytime, no matter what was going on around me.

At the time, I didn’t realize that this was a form of guided imagery, which is a close cousin to hypnotherapy. The only real difference is that hypnotherapy takes you just a little deeper—into the subconscious—using gentle techniques to relax both mind and body before beginning the journey.

Years later, I had a second, more intense experience with hypnotherapy—this time when my marriage was going through a difficult season. I won’t go into details because it’s deeply personal, but I knew I needed help and sought out a hypnotherapist.

That one session cracked something open in me. I released a wave of pent-up emotion—tears that had been waiting for years to be acknowledged. I walked out lighter. Clearer. And for the first time, I fully understood that hypnotherapy and guided imagery aren’t so different after all. Both invite us inward. Both help us remember our inner wisdom. But with hypnotherapy, the access to healing is deeper and more direct.

My third experience came after I had become a certified clinical hypnotherapist myself. I had been working on a book for years but couldn’t seem to finish it. I would get inspired, work intensely, and then burn out. It was a pattern I knew well—starting things with excitement but rarely finishing.

So I reached out to one of my teachers—someone I deeply respect and know to be a phenomenal hypnotherapist—and asked her to help me break through. We had five sessions together, and that was all it took. I finished my book.

Not only did I finish it—I saw it go on to earn the #1 Bestseller label from IngramSpark and win an award from the International Impact Book Awards.

To say that hypnotherapy changed my life would be an understatement. It’s helped me find peace, process pain, and pursue my purpose. It’s helped me heal wounds and also reach goals that once felt impossible.

Now, as a hypnotherapist, I help others tap into that same power within themselves—to release, to grow, to reconnect with who they truly are. Because everything you need is already inside you. Sometimes, you just need the right key to unlock it.

The work I do today feels like a continuation of the gift my mother passed down to me so many years ago. Clients often tell me I’m amazing. Some call me an angel. Others see me as a healer. I don’t take those words lightly—they’re not just compliments, but affirmations that I’m on the path I was meant to follow, helping others transform their lives in meaningful ways.

After each session, I feel energized and filled with gratitude. It is the most rewarding work I’ve ever done—outside of being a mother.

This work is my calling. And when you’re ready, that same quiet space is waiting for you too.
